A brief history of coffee

dua-a-casa

In the 14th and 15th centuries, there are evidences about the consumption of coffee in Arab countries. The plant was very dear to them because it was considered to have magical effects, for this reason the peoples of the area for a long time prohibited the export to other countries. They used coffee mainly to stay awake during night prayers but also for curative purposes.

In the 15th century, the first coffeehouses began to spread in all countries with Muslim culture: meeting places for men where bitter and strong coffee was consumed, accompanied by music and entertainment. Although it was a beloved drink for most, the effects of coffee did not find the support of Islamic law. For this reason, consumption in public places was quickly banned and all cafes were closed. Despite the many attempts to stop its consumption, coffee quickly won everyone's hearts, continuing to be consumed in living rooms. The history of coffee in the West has its first traces in France in 1644, England in 1652, the United States of America around 1670 and Germany in 1679.
